Cell or Mobile phones are a technological miracle for our generation. We have become so completely dependent on them that they have become more like an appendage to us. With the advances in technology we have been able to integrate almost all our tech needs into the cell phone. But the thing without which the cell phone is completely useless is the battery. If the battery dies then there is absolutely nothing that can be done on the phone. So it is important to buy the right type of battery and to help increase its life.
There are two types of cell phone batteries that you can choose from - Nickel cadmium rechargeable batteries and Lithium ion batteries. Of these two the latter has way more benefits. The Nickel Cadmium ones need to be completely discharged before you can recharge them. If you do not allow a complete discharge it affects its performance. It is low powered and essentially has a short life. The Lithium ion ones are high powered and have a long life. Also they do not need to be completely discharged before you can recharge them. Therefore these are the best choice for cell phone users.

There are a few ways in which you can help to conserve the life of you battery. One of the ways to do this is to switch off the phone when you are sure that you will not be getting any calls. This helps to conserve the battery power. In areas where you are sure that you cannot get coverage it is best to turn off the phone or at least set it to the airplane mode. When there is no available network the unit will continue to search for network thus draining its power. If you stop this search it will increase its life. If the battery is showing low power then you should switch off the vibrate function that tends to consume a lot of power. You should turn off the applications and features that you are not using because they are an unnecessary drain. Also if the phone is low on charge you can switch off the backlights. You should try and switch off the Bluetooth feature if you have finished using it. This will help conserve charge. Also you can keep your calls short because when you are on call it takes up a lot of charge. And lastly, if you have the option, switch to GSM. The analog signal uses up a lot more charge than GSM so you should try to use GSM as much as possible.
